Tk 40cr micro loan for ultra-poor
The government has allocated Tk 40 crore to give interest-free micro-loan to the ultra-poor families for cattle farming, said the fisheries and livestock secretary.
The Department of Livestock will distribute the money among the extreme poor to help them fulfill the demand of protein, said the secretary, Ujjal Bikash Dutta.
Many lives can be saved if egg or meat is added to their meals, he said.
The secretary was addressing a seminar organised by Brac, a development organisation, for the livestock officers of eight districts of Dhaka division at the city's Brac Centre Inn on Thursday.
He also asked the livestock officers for steps to stop the deaths of cattle.
At the seminar, the officers pointed out different problems including scarce of vaccination, human resources crisis, and lack of coordination between Brac and the government officials.
Sheepa Hafiza, director of gender justice and diversity and advocacy of Brac, said the livestock officers can assist the extreme poor in cattle farming.
Livestock officers from Manikganj, Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Jamalpur, Faridpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj, and Madaripur joined yesterday's seminar.
