CEC opens 2nd phase
Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda yesterday inaugurated the second phase of the `Pilot Project of Updating Voter Role-2011' in Ward 18 of the Dhaka City Corporation.
The Ward 18 comprises the area of `I' and `K' blocks of Baridhara residential area, Narda, Kalachandpur and Shahjadpur in the city.
Addressing the inaugural function in the Kalachandpur High School auditorium, the CEC said the Election Commission is firmly committed to preparing a flawless voter list as a transparent and flawless voter list would help hold free, fair and neutral elections.
He said the people whose age will reach 18 years in January 2014 will be included in the electoral roll during updating of the voter list.
Presided over by deputy commissioner of Dhaka district M Mohibul Haque, the inaugural function was attended by project director Brig Gen Aktaruzzaman Siddiqui and Dhaka district election officer-3 M Abdul Wadud.
Earlier, the EC concluded the first phase of the pilot project of updating voter lists in Kaliganj in Gazipur and Patnitala in Naogoan district for the next parliamentary elections.
