'Eat less'

Abdus Subhan, On e-mail
Honesty is the best policy. Adulteration of food does not ultimately pay. Panicked by the recent reports of formalined fish, food and fruits and skyrocketing price of essentials, I, like others, have already cut on consumption of food well ahead of the commerce minister's 'directive' about eating less. This eating less will ultimately cause malnutrition and hit commerce and trade having an adverse effect on economy. So his advice appears to be not only naive but also anti-consumerist. True, a few mouthfuls are sufficient to keep us going. But this is quite impertinent here. The commerce minister is there to rid the market of all kinds of adulteration and malpractice and thus build public confidence in consumer items ultimately saving the businessmen and the consumers. He must not desert his post to make room for the dishonest businessmen who are playing with the lives of the teeming millions. People have had enough of your omissions; please earn Allah's pleasure by easing ailing people's suffering in this holy month of Ramadan.
