Torture on Youth
Two UP members arrested
Police yesterday arrested newly-elected two UP members from Bandar upazila auditorium premises in a case filed against them on charge of torturing a youth of the minority community on July 16.
They are Nuruddin Miah, a member of word no 4, and Monjur Hossain, a member of word no 7 of Musapur union.
They were arrested soon after completion of oath taking ceremony of the newly elected chairmen and members of five unions of the upazila in the afternoon.
Harunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station, said they have arrested the two charge-sheeted accused on charge of torturing the youth and trying to nab another accused in this connection.
According to the case statement, the youth, Babu Chakroborty, was allegedly tortured as he married a girl of Musapur area following a love affair.
Musapur UP chairman Anwar Hossain at a arbitration in a temple on July 16, declared Babu guilty and beat him up mercilessly.
Later, a case was filed accusing six people, including Anwar Hossain, and three UP members.
The main accused of the case Anwar Hossain killed in a road accident on July 24.
