National Mourning Day observed in Rajshahi

The government's bodies, socio-political and cultural organisations observed the National Mourning Day in Rajshashi city yesterday with due solemnity. Teachers, students, cultural and political organisations brought out a mourning procession wearing black badges on the Rajshahi University campus in the morning. They placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the central Shaheed Minar premises and observed one-minute silence. A discussion was also held at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium of the university. RU former vice chancellor (VC) Abdul Khaleq was present as the chief guest while RU Pro-VC Muhammad Nurullah, registrar Prof MA Bari, treasurer Prof Abdur Rahman, among others, addressed the discussion. Former vice chancellors, faculty deans, departments' chairmen, teachers and students were also present. Meanwhile, the teachers under the banner of progressive teachers' society placed wreaths at the portrait of Banganbandhu. They also held a discussion at the university's Shahidullah Bhaban gallery. Ruta president Prof Mushfique Ahmed, Prof M Entazul Haque, Prof M Jalal Uddin, Prof Ananda Kumar Saha and Ruta secretary Md Sadequl Arefin Matin, among others, took part in the discussion while Social Science Faculty dean Mizanuddin was in the chair. Bangabandhu Parishad, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, RU officers' association, employees' association and different cultural and political organisations also placed wreaths at the portrait of Banganbandhu at the Shaheed Minar and brought out processions separately. BCL of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) also brought out a procession wearing black badges on the campus. Awami League (AL) and its associated bodies in Rajshahi city placed wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman respectively. Rajshahi city Awami League acting president Prof Bazlur Rahman and former general secretary Shafikur Rahman Badshah were present at the event. A discussion on Bangabandhu was also held at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the city, organised by Rajshahi district administration. Rajshahi city Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the discussion while Rajshahi DC Abdul Hannan was in the chair. Lawmaker Zinatunnesa Talukdar, DIG of police Siddikur Rahman, Metropolitan police commissioner Obaidullah, SP Rokon Uddin also spoke at the discussion.
