Four Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) jawans, held by Indian security forces yesterday at Petrapole, opposite to Benapole land port, were released after a hefty negotiation. A team led by BGB Sub-Commander Major Ghalib of Jessore 22 Battalion Headquarter of BGB went to Haridaspur Border Security Force (BSF) camp after evening to sit in a meeting to reach an understanding between BGB and BSF. After a fruitful negotiation, the four jawans returned to Jessore BGB Headquarter at around 10:45pm. The jawans -- Badiar Rahman, Mohammad Musa, Nazrul Islam and Ehtesam -- went to the no man's land of Petrapole to enjoy the Indian Independence function, said Benapole Check Post BGB Commander Mottaleb, adding that they were not in uniform. He also said the four jawans further went to Petrapole Bazar to roam around after enjoying the function. The Indian detective police in plain cloth arrested them on secret information and took them at gunpoint to Bongaon Police Station. After ascertaining their identity, Bongaon police handed them over to BSF. They underwent interrogation by the BSF, said the BGB commander. BGB Senior Commander Lt Col Hasibul Alam said high level contacts were made to secure the release of the jawans.
