Roads collapse, minister smiles
Transport boss high on mega projects, low on road repair
(August 16, 2011) From Nazmul Huda to Abul, how long will people suffer for these greedy ministers? People want to get rid of these sharks.
Dr. Tasneem Rifat This minister needs to be sacked immediately for his negligence. It is mind boggling how he is being protected by Prime Minister when her various cabinet members are criticizing him.
Nilufar Sarker Our expectation was so high after the last general election and unfortunately the present government made us down in every sphere of national life. The whole cabinet should resign if they have minimum democratic senses.
Dr Islam He is the ultimate shameless who does not have minimum responsibility and accountability as a minister. We should detest him .We want to get relief from these so called leaders.
Md. Sairul Islam When roads are collapsing, Syed Abul Hossain smiles to secure high percentage from Padma Bridge Project. He would secure more commission from the collapsed roads while repairing or reconstructing. He is not bothered because he would become MP again. Why is PM still soft on him despite his negative credibility? In absence of a strong anti-corruption drive, nothing will happen.
Shanto Rahman This Minister, who donated huge money for his AL nomination, cannot be expected to behave saintly with the RHD. RHD is the most corrupted den of engineers in the country. AL will do better by disassociating itself from a man like him.
Ahsan In all fairness the person who is responsible for this situation of roads and highways should immediately resign and PM should give the responsibility to a capable, honest and sincere person to tackle the situation. Otherwise, the situation could go out of control very soon.
Concerned Citizen Abul is an out-performer compared to previous ministers because he has successfully managed to destroy a fragile road system to a virtually non-existent one. He is more interested in big projects because he can make big money from that. What a blessing for a poor nation!
Mahabub Sikder I do think that Communications Minister is unfairly blaming the fund. Foreign aid providers are happy to provide large funds for big projects which serve development purposes but there is no fund for repairing and maintaining current infrastructure which are important for economic development.
N Ali Both AL and BNP have capable leaders who can run important ministries. Unfortunately the most corrupt and inept ones are selected for important tasks. Bangladeshis will never get matured politics from the two top leaders. It is sad but we don't have any option.
Mahabub Sikder It was really a shame. Awami League must reshuffle its cabinet. I am sure HM Shahara Khatun, Commerce Minster Faruk Khan, FM Muhith, Communication Minister Abul Hossain and FM Dipu Moni deserve sacking from cabinet if AL wants to go with public wishes.
Sheikh Monirul Islam, Opee Putting more money on railway network rather than expressway is advisable. Railway is much neglected because it is used by poor and lower middle class and expressway will be used by rich and higher middle class who actually determines power politics in this country. Think of rural economics rather than eyewash.
Dr Karim The minister has good reason to smile to work with the Roads and Highways Department engineers. If the government is serious to investigate the reason behind the present situation in the communication sector, it should start with a thorough investigation with the RHD and the financial status of the RHD engineers for past 20 years.
Zaker Hosain While transport owners are worried about huge maintenance costs due to damaged roads and price hike of spare parts, our Communication Minister desperately took challenge to run the BRTC bus without considering maintenance cost and reconstruction of the damaged road. This type of mentality of a minister is not beneficial to the government and people of the country.
Anupam We are such a novice country that after committing crimes, ministers neither resign nor the parties take action against them. If the present road conditions, reckless driving, major accidents happened in India, the Minister concerned would have definitely resigned. No matter, our minister resigns or not, we want better roads, safety and security of public lives and properties.
Dr Reza Khan The whole country is falling apart while PM and her party is blissfully living in their castles. The whole administration needs to be held accountable. All the promises that Hasina and AL made have been broken. With such a huge mandate this government seems to be keen only on personal vendetta and settling scores. PM and AL should know that mass people do not care about their eyewash when prices are hiking, law and order and infrastructure situation getting worse.
