Indefinite transport strike in Rangpur begins today

Rangpur Motor Sramik Union (union of transport workers) will enforce an indefinite strike from today on all routes in Rangpur district until their five-point demand is met. Speaking at a press conference at Rangpur Press Club yesterday, the union leaders said they are enforcing the strike as the authorities concerned did not comply with their demands within their 72-hour ultimatum. The union Secretary Abdul Mojid, reading out a written statement, said, "They would not let vehicles go from and through Rangpur to other parts of the country." Their other demands include repairing Rangpur Central Bus Terminal and Dhaka Coach Stand and stopping “nasimon”, “karimon” (locally made engine-run vehicles) and battery run rickshaws from plying on highways.
