Janmashtami today
The country's Hindu community will celebrate Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, today with due festivity and religious fervour.
The day is a public holiday.
Different socio-cultural organisations chalked out various programmes marking the day including worship of Lord Krishna, puja, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions and peace processions.
President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Khaleda Zia greeted the Hindu community on the occasion in separate messages.
Organisations including Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Mohanagar Sarbojoneen Puja Committee and Bangladesh Christian Association also greeted the community's people.
