Students and teachers of Manikganj Model High School formed a human chain in front of deputy commissioner's office yesterday protesting illegal arrest of a member of the school governing body. Yahiya Choudhury Inu, who remained captive in Manikganj jail for 16 days because of a fake warrant, was finally released on August 1. Hundreds of people including guardians of the school joined the human chain held from 11:00am to 12:00noon. Sub Inspector of Manikganj police station Ashish Moitra arrested Inu from a meeting at Pouli in the district on July 15 showing him an accused in a case in Khulna under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. After 16 days in jail custody, Inu was released by Samsul Alam, District and Sessions Judge and Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Khulna as he was not at all an accused in the said case. The judge said that police arrested him in a fake warrant issued by using fake seal and signature of the tribunal. He ordered the police commissioner of Khulna and superintendents of police in Manikganj and Khulna to find out the culprits involved in the matter. Meanwhile, Inu said, police at Manikganj Sadar police station including SI Ashish Kumer Moitra and officer-in-charge (OC) Abu Taher Mia misbehaved with him when he tried to say them that something was wrong with the warrant. "No police men heeded to my views for which I had to suffer for over two weeks," he said. Contacted, OC Abu Taher Mia and SI Ashish Kumer Moitra denied the allegation of misbehaviour. Police arrested him following a court order, they claimed.
