Akhteruzzaman passes away

Film director and senior journalist Akhteruzzaman passed away due to a cardiac arrest at city's United Hospital yesterday afternoon at the age of 65. He directed feature film 'Pokamakor-er Ghar Basati' had won the national film award while his another film 'Princes Tina Khan' clinched the Bachsas award. He was currently making a film under the government donation named 'Suchona Rekha er dike'. Akhteruzzaman, a member of Jatiya Press Club (JPC), is involved with journalism for the last 35 years. He worked as senior journalist in The People, Banglar Bani, Jugantor, Muktakantha, Weekly Chitralee, Cinema and Chitrakash. Currently he was working as a teacher at Stamford University. He left behind his wife, a son and a large number of relatives, friends and well-wishers to mourn his death. He will be buried at his family graveyard at Gobindapur village under Raypura upazila in Narsingdi today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condoled his death, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to members of the bereaved family Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Information Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun, Principal Information Officer Harun-ur-Rashid and JPC President Kamal Uddin Shabuj and General Secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed also condoled the death.
