Zillur pays tributes to wife Ivy

Bss, Dhaka
President Zillur Rahman yesterday paid rich tribute with tears to his beloved late wife Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths and offering fateha at her grave at Banani Graveyard in the city marking her seventh death anniversary. A pall of gloom virtually descended in the graveyard when the president hugged his son lawmaker Nazmul Hasan with tears after placing the wreaths at the grave of his wife, the closest associate of his long political life. The president also stood in solemn silence for sometimes beside the grave and later spread red petals of roses on top of the grave. Ivy Rahman, Awami League women's affairs secretary and president of Mahila Awami League, received severe injuries in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack at an AL rally targeting incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the then leader of the opposition, who narrowly escaped the attempt. Ivy Rahman succumbed to her injuries at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on August 24, after three days of the heinous killing of another 23 leaders and activists of the AL. After placing wreath by the president, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Military Secretary Brigadier General M Salauddin Miaji placed wreath on her behalf.
