Father of rape victim says no to charge sheet
The father of the rape victim of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College yesterday challenged the dropping of names of two accused from the charge sheet.
The victim's father challenged the charge sheet filing a naraji (no-confidence) petition before the First Special Tribunal under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Judge AKM Mostafa Dewan of the tribunal fixed September 14 for hearing on the petition.
The judge also rejected a bail petition of Porimol Joydhar who was earlier charge-sheeted for violating a class-X female student of the school.
Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station and also the investigation officer (IO) of the rape case, submitted the charge sheet on August 11 dropping the names of Husne Ara Begum, the principal of the school and college, and Lutfur Rahman, in-charge of the school's Bashundhara branch.
The IO submitted the charge sheet against Porimol, a sacked teacher of the school's Bashundhara branch, as he found Porimol guilty of raping the student.
In the petition, Mahmudul said the IO dropped the names of Hosne Ara and Lutfor from the charges, even though the two tried to cover up the incident and delayed action against the culprit.
On July 5, the victim's family filed the case accusing Porimol of violating the girl at his coaching centre in Badda twice, first on May 28 and then on June 17.
The school authorities fired Porimol on July 5 amid widespread criticism and agitation from students and other quarters.
Porimol was arrested on July 6. Later, on July 11, he confessed to raping the student.
