Do not burden the people with your responsibility

From the issues of August 11, 2011 of different newspapers we learned that the government has made installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) mandatory for all motor vehicles as part of an initiative to prevent carjacking and ensure road safety. The GPS device is a modern technology which is used in advanced countries as a navigational device and tracking the location of vehicles. It is a consumer product; nowhere in the world it is termed as mandatory. According to the reports published in media there are more than 22lakh cars and trucks, and each GPS receiver costs Tk 12,000 and also Tk 300 per month as line rent. People will not be benefited by installing the GPS rather it will risk the lives of the drivers more because the hijackers will not want the case to be reported and also in the first opportunity carjackers will dismantle the device. So, nothing will be gained by installing the GPS receiver except some quarter making a huge amount of money from this decision of the government. We urge the government not to implement this unnecessary decision. Been unable to check price hike of food, Commerce Minister asked people to eat less and now failing to check carjacking the government has made installation of GPS mandatory, maybe the day is not far away when people will be asked to wear bulletproof jackets to be safe from gunshots and may be even armors so that no one can harm them with knives or sticks. It is the government's duty to give security to the people but the government seems to shake it off from its shoulder and burdening the people by its inefficiency.
