3 killed in road accidents

At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Manikganj and Netrakona yesterday. Staff correspondent adds: A man who was scheduled to join his job as a security guard of a market at Uttara Azampur in the capital was killed in a road accident hours before his reporting at the new work. Amal Mondal, 40, who hailed from Tala upazila in Satkhira used to live along with his wife Kamala Mondal and two children at Uttara Baunia. Amal came to Dhaka in search of a job few months back. His wife got a job at a beauty parlour at Azampur two months ago. His wife managed him the job of a security guard in the same market, Kamala told reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). A private car knocked him down while he was crossing the road in front of the market. Pedestrians rushed Amal to DMCH in a critical condition where on-duty doctors declared him dead at 2:00pm. Our correspondent from Manikganj reports: One person was killed and 10 others were injured in separate road accidents on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Manikganj yesterday. A truck helper was killed when a Manikganj-bound BRTC bus hit a brick-laden truck on the highway around 7:30am at Second Golora in Saturia upazila. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Golora Highway Police Md Rafiqul Islam said the truck helper Sagar Chandra Majhi, 16, of Barabaria village under Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka died on the spot. Meanwhile, at least 10 people were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus of Shihab Paribahan hit a roadside tree near Julnas CNG station at Joka in Ghior upazila. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghior Police Station Rais Uddin said the accident occurred around 4:00pm when the driver of the bus lost his control over the steering. Seriously injured Abdur Razzak, 32, of Gazipur, Ferdaus Hossain, 22, of Barisal, Shahadat Hossain, 20, Qamrul Islam, 22, of Pirojpur, Md Alinur, 18, of Jessore and Abdur Rahman, 27, of Joyra in Manikganj were admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital and four others were given first aid, hospital sources said. Our correspondent from Netrakona adds: A schoolboy was killed in a road accident on Netrakona-Mymensingh road at Jawshi Bazar under Netrakona Sadar upazila yesterday. The dead was identified as Russel, 9, son of Nazrul Islam of village Jawshi under Netrakona Sadar upazila. He was the student of class three of Jawshi Government Primary School. Police and local people said a Netrakona-bound passenger bus from Mymensingh hit Russel while he was crossing the road on the way home from a local bazar, leaving him dead on the spot. Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee.
