Housewife allegedly takes her life
A housewife allegedly committed suicide early hours yesterday at her residence in the city's Basabo.
The deceased is Shahida Akhter Irin, 24, wife of Kamrul Hasan Shuvo, a security-in-charge of a shopping complex at Shantinagar.
Police said they detained Kamrul for interrogation.
Kamrul said they had dinner around midnight and Irin asked him to buy her a soft drink from a local shop.
When Kamrul returned within a few minutes, he found Irin hanging by the neck with a scarf from a ceiling fan, police said.
Irin was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 12:45am where doctors declared her dead.
Irin's mother Rowshon Ara told reporters that the couple got married two years back and they did not keep contact with her as she married without their consent.
Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Morgue sources said they found no marks of injury on the body.
Police said an unnatural death case was filed with Sabujbagh Police Station in this connection.
