Train narrowly escapes crash in Rajshahi
The Dhaka-bound Padma intercity train running from Rajshahi narrowly escaped an accident as one of its electric couplers, a device connecting each compartment to from a train, caught fire last night.
Railway control room sources said the fire erupted when the train was running between Nandangachhi and Arani stations in Rajshahi around 7:50pm.
Realising the situation, the driver slowed the train down but some passengers, in panic, started to jump out through the doors and windows. However, there was no report of any major casualty.
The affected coupler was replaced at Ishwardi bypass and the train resumed its journey, delayed by three hours and 40 minutes, added the sources.
