Road crashes kill 4, injure 17

Four people were killed and 17 others injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha, Manikganj and Chittagong on Tuesday and yesterday. Our Gaibandha correspondent reports: A diver was killed and 17 others were injured when a Rangpur-bound bus of Shajadpur Travels collided head-on with a covered van on the Rangpur-Bogra highway at Kamarpur in Palashbari upazila yesterday. The deceased is identified as Julmat Ali Pramanik, 40, a covered van driver, of village Ruhulpur of Pabna. The injured passengers were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Palashbari Health Complex. Police seized both the vehicles but the driver and helpers of the bus managed to flee away. Our Manikganj correspondent says: Two motorcyclists were killed on the spot when an unidentified Paturia-bound bus hit their motorcycle while they were crossing road after taking patrol from a petrol pump on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Kalampur in Dhamrai upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased are Ferdaus, 32, and Tushta, 30, of Nannar village of Dhamrai. CU correspondent adds: A rickshaw-puller was killed on the spot when a speedy truck hit his rickshaw from behind in Teri Bazar area of Kotwali Police Station in the port city yesterday. The identity of the rickshaw-puller, aged around 22, could not be known immediately. Police arrested truck driver, Md Ismail, 35, along with his truck. The body was sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, police said.
