2.11 lakh to vie for 6,031 seats
Around 97 percent admission seekers will not be able to get admission in Dhaka University (DU) in the 2011-2012 academic sessions due to seat scarcity.
More than 2.11 lakh applicants have logged their applications against 6,031 seats under the five units in the current session, said DU authorities.
The number of applicants has increased by around 30 percent than the previous session, they said.
"Nearly 50,000 admission seekers more have applied than that of 2010-2011 academic year, which is a great challenge for DU authority," said Prof Dr Hasibur Rashid, Convener of the online admission committee.
DU sources said the current ratio of applicants against seats available is 74:1 under the Faculty of Social Science where only 1,006 candidates will get admission.
The ratio is 36:1 for the science faculty, 16:1 for arts faculty and 43:1 for both business studies faculty and fine arts faculty, sources added.
A total of 54,674 candidates have applied for 1,553 seats at the science faculty while 35,998 candidates have applied under the arts faculty for 2,378 seats, sources added.
Besides, 5,057 aspirants will fight for 119 seats at the fine arts faculty.
Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the online application system on August 16 and the month-long lodging of online applications came to an end at 12:00am on September 16.
“The authorities of the university have already taken steps to check all the loopholes so that no fake admission seekers can appear in the test” said Prof Arefin.
DU authorities have asked the candidates to submit the money through pay-slip at any branches of Sonali, Rupali, Janata and Agrani Bank by September 20 and the last date of receiving admit card is September 25.
For any correction regarding the admission test, the candidates are asked to inform the admission committee from September 16 to 30.
Seat plans of the admission test will be available at DU website at www.univdhaka.edu.
The aspirants will be able to know the information of their exam hall and result by sending SMS at 16321.
