'Introduce engineering degrees at CU'
Students of two science departments at Chittagong University boycotted classes and scheduled examinations yesterday demanding that they be given engineering degrees instead of BSc (Hon's) degrees on completion of four-year honours programme.
The departments are Applied Physics, Electronics, and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. The students launched the protests on the very day of reopening of the university yesterday after month-long Eid vacation.
They staged a sit-in in front of ICT building and later held a press conference at the office of CU Journalists' Association.
The students said Dhaka University (DU) and Rajshahi University (RU) give engineering degrees while CU students are being deprived despite studying similar academic courses.
