DU students protest increase in fine
Students of Dhaka University (DU) yesterday staged a demonstration on the campus to press home their six-point demand, including withdrawal of the decision to raise fine of non-collegiate students.
The students of different departments brought out a precession from in front of Aparajeyo Bangla and paraded different points on the campus. Later, they held a rally in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla.
Speakers at the rally called upon the authorities concerned to reduce the increased fine on the students who have 75 percent record of skipping their classes.
The DU academic council at a meeting on August 7 decided to increase fine of non-collegiate students from Tk 1,000 to Tk 5,000 per semester.
