Good character a must for national development

Speakers at a discussion demanded recognition of the 'Character Building' campaign, initiated by Swami Swarupananda, at the national level that is vital for the nation's development as a whole, a press release said. Dhaka University (DU) Akhandamandali, a religious organisation of the students, organised the discussion titled “Character development for national development and present perspective” on Friday on the Jagannath Hall premises in the city. Addressing the programme, cultural personality Ali Zaker said national development is not possible unless the development of good character among the people is ensured. Dr Pradip Kumar Roy, advisor to the organisation, demanded DU authority to establish a statue of Swami Swarupananda, founder of the campaign, on the university campus. The campaign has been running across the country since 2008. Dr Jugal Brammachari, principal of Ajachak Ashram Bangladesh, DU faculty Dr Kazi Nurul Islam, Jagannath Hall Provost Dr Ajoy Kumar Das also spoke on the occasion.
