Considering Bangladesh's vulnerability to global warming, Denmark has assured to continue its support to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change. Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Svend Olling made the assurance while addressing a lecture session as the key speaker at National Press Club in the city yesterday. The Forum of Environmental Journalists Bangladesh (FEJB) organised the function marking its 29th founding anniversary. Svend Olling said Denmark will provide allout support to Bangladesh in climate negotiation, undertaking adaptation progarmmes and capacity building to address the ongoing climate challenges. He said although Bangladesh is a developing country, it has already shown its leadership in climate negotiation across the world. “Bangladesh is one of the first countries that formulated a climate change strategy plan.” The Danish envoy suggested Bangladesh to adopt energy efficiency technologies to cut carbon emission with a view to addressing global warning. “If you save energy, you save money.” About similarities between the two countries, he said Denmark is an island country with five million people and it is one of the least-affected nations by climate change. Bangladesh is more vulnerable to climate change due to its large number of people, he added. Olling said Denmark has seen about 80 percent economic growth over the last 30 years while zero percent growth in consumption and negative growth in carbon emission. He said although the EU targeted to cut emission by 10 percent within 2020, his country is committed to reducing carbon by 30 percent during the same period. The envoy urged the media to focus more on the reality of climate change and provide solution as well as idea to face the adverse impacts of climate change.
