British MPs visit eye hospital
Four British lawmakers visited VARD eye hospital in Balaganj upazila and met the beneficiaries of "Vision Bangladesh" programme in different upazilas of Sylhet yesterday.
VARD (Voluntary Association for Rural Development), a local NGO, runs the hospital while Vision Bangladesh project aims to operate cataract patients in the region for free.
The team of four conservative MPs are on an eight-day visit in Sylhet to observe the implementation of Maya project launched recently in the division.
Taken up by the UK's Conservative Party, Maya aims to improve especially health and education in Sylhet. The party will spend about 40,000 British pounds on the project.
The British team of lawmakers includes Nicky Morgan, Andrew Stephenson, Anne Main, and Tobas Ellwood.
