BALID's silver jubilee celebration begins
A three-month celebration for the silver jubilee of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists, and Documentalists (BALID) began in the city on September 17, says a press release.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, which was followed by a procession from Aparajeyo Bangla to Jatiya Press Club.
The programme was jointly organised by Information Science and Library Management departments of Dhaka University and Rajshahi University and the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB).
Later BALID held a news conference at Jatiya Press Club in the city where DU Professor SM Mannan read out 10 demands of the association.
The demands include introduction of library cadre service in government sector, setting up a separate ministry for supervising all libraries of the country, and graduating status of the librarians.
BALID chairman M Hossam Haider Chowdhury delivered the welcome address at the conference where Dean of Arts Faculty of DU Prof Sadrul Amin was present as a special guest.
