Dhaka co-sponsors ministerial meet
Bangladesh co-sponsored a ministerial meeting on “Commitment to accelerate progress on the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals)” in New York on Wednesday.
Other sponsors are Japan, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Vietnam, Zambia, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children's Fund and World Bank.
With the 66th UN General Assembly running, the participating countries noted that the MDGs helped unite countries, engage citizens and inspire policies which eventually put their people at the centre.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni made a statement at the event on “Priorities in the remaining period”.
The meeting was a follow up to the one hosted in Tokyo, Japan in June 2011, where it was agreed that a joint effort was needed to identify and address the underlying bottlenecks preventing MDG progress.
