Four dead, nine injured in road accidents
Four persons were killed and nine injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Khagrachhari and Rajbari yesterday and Friday.
Our staff correspondent reports: Two persons including a boy were killed and nine others injured in four separate road accidents in Dhaka yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Md Saikat, 10, son of Abul Kalam, a slum dweller of Beri Bandh area in Mohammadpur, and an unidentified man aged around 52 years.
A passenger vehicle “Leguna” hit Saikat in the area around 1:30pm. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said police.
The unidentified man was crossing the road in front of Farmgate Police Box when a crane working for Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority hit him around 5:00pm. He was rushed to the adjacent Al Rajee Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said police.
In another accident, Falguni Akhter, 7, a student of Hajaribagh Ideal Academy at Char Waispur, was hit by a motorcycle near the school around 10:30am, said police. She was admitted to DMCH, where doctors stated her condition to be critical.
Meanwhile, a bus of Shikor Paribahan lost control and hit a CNG-run three-wheeler before crashing into a tree near High Court premises around 11:00am, said police. Eight passengers of the vehicles were being treated at DMCH, said DMCH sources.
Our correspondent from Khagrachhari adds: A man was killed in a road accident at Muslimpara area under Matiranga upazila in Khagrachhari district yesterday.
The deceased is Arun Chakma, 45, a turmeric trader of Shijokmukh village under Bagaichhari upazila in Rangamati district.
Arun was in a turmeric laden truck which lost control over the steering and fell into a ditch, leaving him dead on the spot, said Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman of Guimara Police station.
The body was sent to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he added.
Our correspondent from Manikganj reports: A union parishad member was killed in a road accident on Baliakandi-Narua road at Garakola Bazar area under Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari on Friday night.
The victim is Rampada Mazumdar, 45, son of Herendranath Mazumdar of Char Goaldah village and member of ward number four of Dariapur union parishad under Sreepur upazila of Magura district.
Rampada was riding a motorcycle when a jute laden truck hit him from behind, leaving him dead on the spot, said police.
A mob caught the truck driver, gave him a beating and handed him over to police, police said.
