'Promote Bangla language'

University Bangla Teachers' Council on Sunday planned on its upcoming activities to develop and promote Bangla language, literature and culture in the country's educational bodies. The discussion was held at its convener council meeting held in a seminar room of the Bangla Department at Jahangirnagar University (JU). Teachers from JU, Dhaka University (DU), Rajshahi University, Jagannath University and other public universities attended the meeting. Teachers discussed on creating a platform for acquiring higher degrees on Bangla language and literature in the country. They also planned on making a proper syllabus, study plan and teaching method to make it happen. Prof Dr M Khaled Hossain, convener of the council and a JU teacher, presided over the meeting. He said the council will focus on issues related to study rules, professional skills of teachers and will work with the aim to connect Bangla literature to world literature. The council, formed in October 19, 2010, also decided to arrange its first summit meeting in coming February, for which a 31-member organising committee was declared.
