Elderly woman killed by domestic help
An elderly woman who was hacked allegedly by a female domestic help at her Shyampur residence on Saturday night succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in the city's Ramna area yesterday.
The dead identified as Hasena Begum, 70, used to live with her family on the 3rd floor of her five-story building on Satish Sarker Road of Shyampur. Hasena was alone at in the house during the incident.
Domestic help Anju Ara Begum, 28, hacked her with a kitchen knife around 11:00pm on Saturday, said family members and police quoting the victim.
Hasena's relatives told this correspondent that Anju took away Tk 50,000 in cash and two tolas of gold ornaments from the almirah and fled the house.
Shyampur police said Anju locked the door of the flat from outside before fleeing.
Hasena's younger son Kamaluddin, a clothes trader at Gulistan, said he had found the door of his mother's flat locked from outside after he returned home.
Kamal said he entered the flat breaking open the door and found his mother bleeding profusely on the floor.
Hasena has two sons and five daughters.
Police suspect that there might be a third person behind the killing.
