Debate helps build students' conscience, say speakers
Speakers yesterday called on the students of Chittagong University (CU) to use the power of knowledge to make Bangladesh a corruption free, poverty free country.
They were addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day long debate competition organised by CU Debating Society (CUDS) in cooperation with BdJobs.com at a university auditorium.
Addressing as the chief guest, CU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Alauddin said debating sharpens people's conscience and helps in developing their reasoning, which is a vital element in becoming efficient country leaders of tomorrow.
Department of Islamic History and Culture emerged as the champion while Department of Law became runners-up in the Bangla debate.
In the English debate, Department of Finance and Banking became the champion with Department of Management Studies as the runners-up.
Abdun Noor Tushar, president of Bangladesh Debate Federation, urged the students to brighten the country's image to the world by enlightening themselves with education, honesty and morality.
He along with CU Law Faculty Dean Prof Md Zakir Hossain and Journalist and novelist Anisul Hoque attended as special guests, while Prof Dr Mahbubul Hoque of CU Bangla Department presided over the programme.
A total of 51 teams from CU's various departments participated in the debate competition in Bangla and English that started on September 26.
