Plot on to grab Darul Fazal Market, say FF leaders

Leaders of local Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Command Council alleged that some influential locals backed by politicians are plotting to grab the building of Darul Fazal Market (Muktijoddha Bhaban) in the port city. The council's Chittagong district unit leaders made the remark at a press conference in Chittagong Press Club on Tuesday alleging a businessmen group in the name of 'Darul Fazal Market Cooperative Society Limited' in this connection. The building is being used as the council's district and city unit office through approval of the deputy commissioner (DC) of Chittagong, said Md Sahab Uddin, the council's Chittagong unit commander. Though former president Hussain Muhammad Ershad directed the DC to hand over the property to Muktijoddha Sangsad Command Council, it was undone despite completion of the official paperwork, he said. The building, which has been a place of gathering for the freedom fighters for past 40 years, is now a property of the commerce ministry. The leaders sought help to allot the land and building to the Muktijoddha council. A rally and demonstration programme in this regard will be held on October 8 in front of the building, they added.
