Businessman stabbed in city

A gang of unidentified miscreants stabbed a businessman of New Elephant Road area in the city yesterday. Toufique Ehsan, 55, president of Alpana Plaza Businessmen Association and a readymade garments businessman, was stabbed in his hands and right thigh in front of Alpana Plaza market. Witnesses said the criminals numbering seven to eight also hit him in the head with hockey stick around 3.30pm. A witness said they attacked Ehsan while he was going to Alpana Plaza market. Witnesses said the injured was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) from where he was shifted to a private hospital in the Elephant Road area. New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman told this correspondent that they had heard that the attack was a sequel to a previous business related conflict. None was arrested till 7.30pm yesterday while the OC said they are trying to arrest the culprits.
