Enclave deal implementation urged
Moshal rally today
Hundreds of enclave dwellers of Panchagarh district yesterday brought out a bicycle procession on the eighth day of a 10-day agitation programme demanding early implementation of the enclave exchange deal between Bangladesh and India.
Declared on September 15 and beginning on September 23, the day-wise programme includes a night without lamps, refraining from lighting stoves, mass signature collection campaign, human chain and processions.
A silent procession was held on Thursday, demanding a specific timeframe for the implementation in line with Bangladesh-India land boundary agreement of 1974, popularly known as Mujib-Indira Pact.
A Moshal (torch) rally will be held today symbolising basic rights and their struggle to live as human beings, said India-Bangladesh Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee General Secretary Md Golam Mostafa.
He said a massive programme will be announced on October 2 if both governments of India and Bangladesh fail to take steps for the implementation of the deal.
Devoid of basic citizens' rights, the enclave people are living in awful conditions amid inadequate employment opportunities, infrastructure, educational institutions, electricity and medical facilities, they said.
A total of 111 enclaves are situated in Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Nilphamari districts while 51 enclaves are in Indian Cooch Bihar district.
