A total of 14,000 field workers would be appointed very soon under Directorate General of Family Planning to work all over the country said State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Captain (retd) Dr Mozibur Rahman Fakir yesterday. Appointment of 7,000 field workers is under process while the remaining would be appointed next month. Another 500 doctors will also be appointed within a few months, he added. He praised the directorate staff over child and mother mortality rate reduction but criticised those having more than one child, saying, “If you do not believe in family planning, how are you to convince others?” The department Director General MM Niaj Uddin said the department's staff will be increased to one lakh from the present 52,000. He expressed deep concern over the country's increasing population, saying that Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world, eight times higher than that of China, the country with the world's highest population. Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuian, Dr Sheikh Shafiul Azam, Dr Abul Monsur Chowdhury, Dr Sheikh Rukunuddin Ahmed and Bilkis Banu spoke at the event with Dr Mohammad Sharif in the chair.
