Five killed in road accidents

Five people were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in Savar, Gaibandha, Benapole, Chapainawabganj and Brahmanbaria on Friday and yesterday. JU correspondent reports: A 70-year old man was killed when a bus hit him while he was crossing the road in front of Nasir Petrol Pump at Hemayetpur in Savar on Friday night. The deceased was Harez Ali, a night guard of Nasir Petrol Pump. Following the accident, locals chased the bus with a truck and vandalised it but the driver of the bus fled the scene. Our Gaibandha correspondent adds: A schoolboy was crashed under the wheels of a speedy truck when he was crossing the Rangpur-Bogra highway near dreamland at Palashbari upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased was Ekhlasur Rahman, 13, son of Abul Hossain, of village Dublagari in Palashbari upazila. He was a student of class seven of Palashbari SM Pilot High School. The truck however fled the scene soon after the accident. Our Benapole correspondent says: A school girl was killed when a speedy truck hit her while she was crossing the Benapole-Jessore highway in front of her school at Sadar upazila yesterday morning. The girl was identified as Tuli Khatun, 8, daughter of Afzal Hossain, of village Chhoto Meghla of Sadar upazila. She was a student of class two of Jessore Meghla Govt Primary School. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent adds: An elderly man was killed on the spot when he fell down from a speedy Bhutbhuti, locally made three-wheeler, at Sindurmuchi village of Nachole upazila in Chapainawabganj yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Zillur Rahman, 55, of Khesba village of Nachole upazila. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Our Brahmanbaria correspondent says: One man was killed and four others were injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a stone laden truck form Sylhet collided head-on on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Kuttapara village of Sarail upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Md Haroon Mia, 40, of Sayedtulah village of Sarail upazila. The injured auto-rickshaw passengers were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
