Setting Fire to Idols

Four arrested in Rajshahi

Police arrested four people suspecting them to be involved in setting fire on idols of the Hindu Goddess Durga at the Central Durga Temple in Charghat upazila yesterday. The arrestees are Mamtaz Hossain, Kawsar Ali, Manik Ratan, and Baser Ali of the upazila. Police placed the arrestees before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court seeking a five-day remand. Abdur Razzak Khan, OC of Charghat Police Station, said some unknown people entered into the temple through a back door on Friday night and set fire on the under construction idols pouring kerosene. The clothes of the idols were burnt, he added. After the incident, local police led by the UNO ANM Bazlur Rashid rushed to the scene and the four were arrested on suspicion after the temple governing body president Sree Bijoy Agarwala filed a case in this regard.
