Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Chief Michael Reese of Portland city in the state of Oregon, US came on a four-day visit to Rajshahi yesterday. He is being accompanied by PPB Police Commissioner Michael Kuykendall, said Morshedul Anwar Khan, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP). The two are scheduled to observe PPB police officers who are training RMP members, have discussions with senior police officials and visit Rajshahi Police Academy in Shardah. The two-year training programme was jointly taken by PPB and the US Department of Justice and State, specifically International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program, says a press release from the US embassy in Dhaka yesterday. With a good number of Muslims, including Bangladeshis, Portland and its surrounding suburbs have a population of just over 1 million people, similar to Rajshahi city, making it a logical choice for the programme, says the release.
