Clash Over New Bus Fare in Ctg

Bus passengers yesterday vandalised two buses and blocked the road at Bahadderhat intersection in Chittagong city for around half an hour protesting the new fare implemented from October 7. The blockade resulted in a huge traffic jam in the area, causing suffering to hundreds of commuters. Eyewitnesses said passengers of a bus on route 1 locked in an altercation with the bus employees around 8:45am over the new fare for the first three kilometers. The government and District Road Transport Owners' Group fixed the fare at Tk 5 but it was not enforced until now. The passengers got down and vandalised the bus and another one at the intersection. They also manhandled the employees. Road communication resumed after half an hour, they added.
