Prothom Alo signs MoU with DU

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Dhaka University (DU) Bangla daily Prothom Alo was signed at DU vice-chancellor (VC) office on Wednesday to launch Professor Sitara Parvin memorial speech and research fellowship from next year. DU VC Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Sidique and Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective side. Sitara Parvin who was a professor of Mass Communication and Journalism department of DU died in a road accident in USA on June 23, 2005. The two organisations will organise Prof Sitara Parvin memorial speech jointly from next year inviting a noted mass media expert from Saarc countries to deliver the speech. Mass Communication and Journalism department and Prothom Alo will select the speaker and the newspaper will bear the expenditure, said the DU authorities. Prothom Alo will also launch "Professor Sitara Pervin Research Fellowship" from the same year to recognise outstanding contribution in the field of mass media and mass communication research. The research fellow will get Tk 15,000 each month for one year. Journalists and lecturers and assistant professors of Mass Communication and Journalism departments and young researchers having masters degree in the department will be eligible to get the fellowship.
