'Punish unruly drivers'

Staff Correspondent
Former classmates of a university teacher, who was killed in a road accident early this month, have demanded exemplary punishment to unruly drivers, a press release said. They said many people are killed everyday in the hands of rowdy drivers, and the death of Obaidul Haque, an associate professor at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet), is just a continuation of the trend. The views came from a human chain in front of the city's Jatiya Press Club, organised by Haque's former classmates and friends from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where the Cuet teacher had studied. They said they would organise protests in front of Bangladesh embassies in the United States, UK, Canada and Australia among other countries. Obaidul Haque was run over by a bus near the Matsya Bhaban in the city on October 2.
