9 killed, 28 hurt in road crashes
Nine people were killed and another 28 injured in road accidents in Sherpur, Netrakona, Sirajganj, Gopalganj, and Chittagong yesterday.
A Sherpur correspondent says: Four passengers were killed on the spot and 20 others wounded as a bus plunged into a Sherpur-Dhaka highway-side ditch in Jalalpur of Nakla upazila yesterday.
The victims' identities were not known immediately except that they hailed from Katiadi upazila, Kishoreganj. The injured were admitted to Nakla Upazila Health Complex,
Fasiur Rahman, officer-in-charge, Nakla Police Station, said the victims were returning home from a religious congregation (urs) in Sherpur.
Our Netrakona correspondent reports: Two persons were killed and another six injured as a tempo (improvised passenger vehicle) rammed another tempo on Netrakona-Mohongonj road at Kandulia in the sadar upazila Saturday night.
The dead are Rahima Begum, 35, wife of Momin Khan of village Bawshi, and Anwara Begum, wife of Amzad Ali of village Doshder, under Barhatta upazila.
Two persons with critical injuries were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The rest were taken to Netrakona sadar hospital.
Our Sirajganj correspondent reports: A woman died on the spot and her husband and son suffered injuries as a pickup van knocked them down in Palli Biddyut area in Ullapara upazila yesterday.
Aysha Khatun, 28, the deceased, hailed from the upazila's Balshabari village. Her injured husband Ataur Rahman, 35, and son Fakhruddin, 10, were taken to Sirajganj general hospital.
Tajul Huda, officerin-charge, Ullapara Police Station, said the couple with their son were returning home from Enayetpur on a motorcycle.
A Gopalganj correspondent reports: A college student died after being hit by a truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Mazra in Kashiani upazila, Gopalganj yesterday.
The dead is Haider Ali, a student of MA Khalek Degree College in Kashiani. He was taken to Kashiani hospital and then to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Staff correspondent from Ctg says: A man died as a recklessly driven truck ran over him at Dewan Hat intersection in the port city early yesterday.
The deceased is Md Arif, 40, hailing from Naogaon, said police.
Marjina, sub-inspector, Double Mooring Police Station, said the accident occurred at about 1:00am and Arif died in Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 5:00am.
