Nat'l urban forum starts on Dec 5

Aiming at a better future for urban people, a national platform involving government and non-government offices and organisations will launch operation in December. The main objective of "Bangladesh Urban Forum" (BUF) is to bring all stakeholders under one platform so that they can cooperate in preparing and implementing urban management plans and policies. A national steering committee headed by the LGRD minister will lead the forum to be comprised of housing and public works minister, secretaries of both the ministries, top officials of over 30 government and non-government organisations. BUF will officially be launched on December 5, noted urban planner Prof Nazrul Islam, also the chair of BUF secretariat, told a meet-the-press at a city hotel on Thursday. The government, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) will fund the forum. The forum consists of Dhaka City Corporation, Rajuk, Prime Minister's Office, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Planning Commi-ssion,FBCCI, Bangaldesh Poribesh Andolon.
