Govt to raise literacy rate: Nahid
The government is trying its best to increase the literacy rate to help achieve progress in all fields, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday.
He said now 92 per cent of the children are attending schools, adding that all concerned should take necessary measures for reducing the number of dropouts.
Nahid told the 6th reunion of the old cadets of Sylhet Cadet College as the chief guest.
Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran delivered the inaugural speech as special guest.
Presided over by Md Maniruzzaman, convener of the reunion committee, the programme was addressed, among others, by Md Mahfuzur Rahman, acting principal of the college and Abdullah Al Kafi, the committee president.
