'Foil move to hinder war crimes trial'
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed yesterday vowed to thwart any move for hindering trial process of the war criminals.
"A clique of anti-liberation forces is conspiring to foil the trial by appointing lobbyists abroad,” he said and sought support from the patriotic forces and international community to help prevent their evil-design for the cause of humanity.
He was addressing a discussion on “Concerted Efforts to Protect Human Rights: Demand of the Youths” organised by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at TSC auditorium on Dhaka University campus marking the International Human Rights Day 2011.
Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice M Iman Ali, Swedish Ambassador Anneli Lindahl Kenny, Resident Coordinator of the UN Neal Walker, and members of the commission Qazi Rezaul Haque and Niru Kumar Chakma also spoke at the discussion with NHRC Chairman Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman in the chair.
Addressing a separate function, the law minister said the present government wanted to establish rule of the law in the country by holding trial of the war criminals.
He said this while opening the cover of the CD titled “Jagoroner Gaan-3” at Shikha Chiranton in Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
