Four killed, 8 injured in road accidents
Four people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in Jessore, Pabna, Rajshahi and Chittagong early Sunday and yesterday.
Our Benapole correspondent reports: A tempo driver identified as Nayem Sheik, 40, son of Mijanur Rahman of Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore, was killed as his vehicle fell into a roadside ditch in Basuari Bazar area of the upazila yesterday morning.
In Pabna, Mina Khatun, 26, wife of Monir Hossain, was killed on the spot as a speeding truck hit her while crossing the Pabna-Ishwardi Highway at Gati village on Sunday evening.
Locals put barricade on the highway for one hour protesting the accident.
RU Correspondent adds: Two brick-field workers were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway in Fakipara area of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Sunday night.
The deceased are Yasin Ali, 22, of Atvag village in Puthia upazila and Harunur Rashid, 20, of the same area.
Police said a brick-laden tractor carrying them overturned in the area around 8:30pm killing Yasin on the spot.
Harunur succumbed to his inures at Puthia Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, Bilkis Banu, wife of Harunur Rashid, alleged that his husband had died without any treatment as any doctor was not available in the health complex in that time.
Muhammad Burhan Ali, a doctor of the health complex denied such allegation claiming the victim died due to several injuries on his head.
Dr Shahidul Islam, civil surgeon of Rajshahi, said he will investigate the matter.
Staff correspondent from Chittagong says: Eight college students were injured as a coach rammed a microbus on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway at Chakaria upazila yesterday.
The injured are Tipu, 19, Shaheed, 20, Sabbir, 19, Himel, 18, Russell, 17, Aminul, 18, Pappu, 19, and Shiplu, 18, all of Osmani Nagar in Sylhet.
Sources said the victims were returning from a picnic in Cox's Bazar by the microbus.
Locals took them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
