Deal with Japanese Co
Cwasa to set up 76.30km pipeline
Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Cwasa) here yesterday signed a deal with Japanese contractors for setting up a transmission and distribution pipeline under Karnaphuli Water Supply Project (KWSP).
Cwasa signed the deal with KUBOTA-Marubini, a joint venture of two Japanese contractor companies KUBOTA Constructions and MARUNBENI Constructions.
Cwasa Managing Director Eng AKM Fazlullah and Akira Shirai on behalf of the joint venture signed deal.
Around 76.30km pipeline will be set up from Pomra of Rangunia upazila to Chittagong City under Tk 1,654 crore “Karnaphuli Water Supply Project” funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), sources said.
Cwasa MD Fazlullah said setting up of the transmission and distribution pipeline would cost around Tk 710 crore and take 30 months to complete the work.
Once the project is completed, Cwasa would able to add 136 million litres of more water per day to the existing capacity of 210 million litres, he said.
Mentionable, the current demand for water in the city is around 500 million litres per day while the Cwasa is supplying only 44 per cent of the total demand.
