BNP stands by war criminals

Speakers at a discussion yesterday said BNP in connivance with Jamaat is plotting to protect those who were responsible for killing, rape, arson and looting during the War of Liberation in 1971. BNP has taken side of war criminals to foil the on-going trial of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity, said the speakers. They made the remarks at a discussion at Institute of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh in the city. Bangabandhu Parishad organised the event marking the Victory Day with its general secretary Dr SA Malek was in the chair. "We must forge unity against war criminals and Rezakers right now," said State Minister for Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman at the discussion. SA Malek said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working round- the-clock to fulfill dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in building a Sonar Bangla which would be free from all sorts of repression and fundamentalism. Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) Abdul Jalil Bhuyian said defeated forces of the liberation war are still active in Bangladesh to foil the war crimes trial. Former vice-chancellor of Chittagong University Abdul Mannan, Dhaka University Teachers' Association leader Dr Akhtaruzzaman, Poet Moahdeb Saha, Mahabub Uddin, Bir Bikram, and journalist Matiur Rahman Latu, among others, took part in the discussion.
