A clash between two factions of Awami League (AL) over establishing supremacy in a Victory Day programme in Pakundia upazila yesterday left 20 people injured and foiled the event. Locals said the two rival groups--one led by upazila Chairman Suhrab Uddin and another by AL leader Rafiqul Islam Renu--locked in the clash at about 10:30am to get control of stage of the event at Pakundia Pilot High School ground in presence of local lawmaker Dr Abdul Mannan and UNO Lutfunnesa. Chase and counter chase took place during the clash, leaving around 20 people injured. Later, local freedom fighters staged demonstration and demanded punishment to the trouble makers for foiling the programme. They also threatened to boycott the upcoming Independence Day programmes if their demand is not met. Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further clash. Our Correspondent from Pabna adds: At least 15 people, including four policemen, were injured in a clash between police and activists of Awami League (AL) over a stalking incident during the Victory Day programme in Faridpur upazila yesterday. Police and witnesses said around 11:30am, some youths were stalking female audiences at the parade programme, organised by the upazila administration, at Bonwarinagar football ground. When police asked them to leave the place, the youths locked in an altercation with police. At one stage, police charged batons on them, leaving Rani Islam, 24, joint secretary of Faridpur upazila unit of AL, injured. Later, Rani's father Kuddus along with his supporters assaulted sub-inspector Mojaharul Islam that led to the clash.
