Road accidents kill 16

Sixteen people were killed and 18 others injured in separate road accidents in Netrakona, Narail, Magura, Kishoreganj, Chapainawabganj, Brahmanbaria, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Panchagarh in last two days. Our Netrakona correspondent reports: One man was killed on the spot and five others were injured when a tempo fell into a roadside ditch after a truck hit the tempo on the Mohonganj-Gaglajur road at Nawgaw in Mohonganj upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rahman Ratan, 60, of village Hagua of Mohonganj upazila. The injured were admitted to Mohonganj upazila Health Complex. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee. Our Narail correspondent says: A seven-year old child was killed on the spot when a speedy easy bike hit him while he was trying to cross the Lohagara-Mohajon road at Digholia Bazar of Lohagara upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was Emon Munshi, 7, son of Imran Munshi, from Dhaka. Two days ago he came to his grandfather's house. Our Magura correspondent adds: A leader of Magura district unit Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL) was killed when he lost control over his motorcycle and fell down on the Magura-Jessore highway on Tuesday night. The deceased was Rabiul Islam 23, son of Rafizul Islam, of Parnaduali village of Magura municipality area and the library affairs secretary of Magura district unit BCL. Our Kishoreganj correspondent says: One unidentified man aged around, 50, was killed when a truck hit him in Uttar Austagaria area of Katiadi upazila yesterday. The man died in Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital. Hospital sources said a passer-by Saiful Islam, son of Falu Mia of Uttar Austagaria village in Katiadi, took the injured man to the hospital from the spot. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent adds: A woman was killed and her husband motorcycle rider injured when a truck hit the motorcycle on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamsjid Land Port highway at Pankhakipara of Shibganj upazila yesterday. The deceased was Rani Khatun, 42, wife of Abdur Razzak, of Hazarbighi village of Shibganj upazila and injured was Rani's husband Abdur Razzak. He was admitted to Shibganj Health Complex. Police sent the body to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene. Our Brahmanbaria correspondent says: A woman was killed and her husband injured when a truck knocked their motorbike from behind on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Bertoal village of Sarail upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased was Hena Akter, 25, wife of Md Mukul. Mukul was admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital in critical condition. BSS from Meherpur adds: Five people were killed and nine others injured when a truck loaded with onion lost control and fell into the roadside Kazla river at Terail village of Gangni upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased were Shariful, 25, Nagraj, 22, Shaban 23, Tofazzal, 26, and Haran 30. All of them are onion traders of Ragunathpur village of Meherpur Sadar upazila. Fire Service men, Police and Rab with the help of local people recovered the bodies of the victims and rescued the injured persons. The injured were admitted to Gangni Thana Health Complex and Meherpur General Hospital. UNB from Chuadanga says: Two people were killed on the spot when a bus rammed a human hauler on the Chuadanga-Kaliganj road at Joramail in Jibonnagar upazila yesterday. The deceased were Monirul Islam, 27, son of Alauddin of Banka village and Aminur Rahman, 30, son of Jummat Ali of Narayanpur village in the upazila. Both of them are the sales men of Pran Company. UNB from Panchagarh adds: Three people, including a bank manager, were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in the district on Tuesday. Police said a bank manager was killed when a speedy pickup van ran him over in Mithapukur area of the town while he was crossing the road. The deceased was identified as local Agrani Bank manager Safiur Rahman, 50. He was the resident of the Mithapukur area. In another incident a retired policeman was killed and another two were injured in a head-on-collision between two motorcycles at Jagadal Thutapakhuri on the Panchagarh-Tentulia highway. The deceased was identified as Lutfar Rahman, 50, of Gitalgaj village in Tentulia upazila. Of the injured, Manir, 25, was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital while Akash, 25, was sent to Adhunik Sadar Hospital. Meanwhile, a minor girl Ripu, 5, of Bhajanpur village in Tentulia upazila was killed as a tank lorry ran her over in Patharaj area. She met the accident while she and her mother were crossing the road. Protesting the accident agitated local people barricaded the highway disrupting traffic movement for three hours.
