Work in coordination with elected local representatives
PM asks district administrators
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the newly appointed district council administrators to work together in coordination with the elected representatives of two other local government tiers and local political leaders so that people can get benefit of the programmes taken by the government for their welfare.
"It's a major task and responsibility given to you to monitor the development activities of the government as well coordinating the activities of different tiers of the local government," she said hoping that the administrators with their long political experience will be able to serve people for their betterment.
Hasina was addressing the newly appointed 61 administrators of district councils at her official residence Gono Bhaban in the evening. It's the first meeting of the prime minister with the administrators after their appointment on December 15, 2011.
She noted that the main task of the district council administrators is to monitor the development activities of the union and upazila councils and maintain coordination in their activities to facilitate people getting maximum benefit for the government projects to people.
“We have also plans to engage the district councils in future in the budget planning of a district so that public funds can be utilised for the maximum benefit of the people of the district,”, she said.
The premier said the administrators would be given training on resources management and development planning to strengthen their capacity to perform their duties effectively.
Seven administrators from six divisions also spoke on the occasion. They are Begum Hasinadowllah of Dhaka district, Mahbub Zaman Dulu of Rajshahi, Abdus Slam of Chittagong, Abdus Jalil Sufian of Sylhet, Dr Mokhlesur Rahman of Barisal, Rezina Razzak of Rangpur and Sheikh Harun ar Rashid of Khulna.
Deputy Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Awami League Presidium member Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and secretary of the Local Government Division Abu Alam Shahid Khan also spoke. Acting general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mahbub ul Alam Hanif gave the vote of thanks.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni were present on the occasion.
